PETG Moisture Signs, Storage & Drying

PETG can absorb moisture during transportation, storage and printing. Proper moisture control helps maintain stable extrusion, surface quality and layer adhesion.

Common Signs of Moisture Absorption

  • Popping or crackling sounds during extrusion
  • Small bubbles at the nozzle
  • Excessive stringing
  • Rough or cloudy printed surfaces
  • Inconsistent extrusion
  • Reduced layer adhesion
  • Weaker or more brittle printed parts

Recommended Storage

  • Keep unopened filament in its original vacuum-sealed packaging.
  • Store opened spools in a sealed dry box or airtight container.
  • Use fresh desiccant and replace or regenerate it regularly.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to humid air.
  • Keep the spool dry during long print jobs.
  • Reseal partially used spools immediately after printing.

Practical Printing Advice

  • Use a slightly higher first layer than PLA to avoid excessive bed adhesion.
  • Keep cooling moderate to balance surface quality and layer bonding.
